Poor Man's Whiskey finally got to taste how sweet it is to rock the legendary Fillmore. Big thanks to Hot Buttered Rum for letting us warm up the crowd for them. It was an honor to play such a historic venue where we have all have seen such amazing music for so many years.
The evening started off with PMW warming up the crowd with some good ol' bluegrass numbers out on the dance floor. It is a PMW tradition that we really look forward to each show. It keeps us close to the roots of what acoustic music is all about... a group of good folks gathered around in a circle singing and picking together. It was great to have Nat Keefe from Hot Buttered Rum come out and join us. He is a great singer and picker, and always fun to play with. He helped bring our metalgrass version of Sweet Child O' Mine to a new level, complete with the acoustic rock metal ending that had the whole band on their knees!

Poor Man's Whiskey took the stage at 9pm. The theme for the night was a "Groovy Dance Party". Needless to say, we were more than excited to don our groovy threads and hit the stage. Wow, talk about a view. We were super pumped, and dove into our set. We were joined by very special guests the San Francisco Duct Tape Choir for our song PMS. These boys can really play the duct tape, among other things. They are all relatives of PMW. From left to right we have Zach Brough, Earl Jebidiah, Elmer Jebidiah, and P Diddy. If you haven't seen them before, they are well worth checking out. There main instrumentalist Earl Jebidiah (aka Rooster Cockburn) plays the Penis Pump. You have to see it to believe it.

We pulled out some new covers for this show. First was a reworked version of Aerosmith's Sweet Emotion. Second was our take on the Dead anthem, Lady with a fan -> Terrapin Station. Fortunately for us, our set was taped (thank you Will), and posted here on Archive.org. If you missed any of those songs, or want to hear our set, check it out if you get a chance. There are some pretty entertaining moments in there. Also, PMW was lucky enough to have Deadesq Dave take some pics of the evening. To view his gallery, click here, be sure to look under the concert photography section.
Speaking of entertaining moments, we also had the good fortune of some fans filming pieces of our set. This clip from Lake County Lady was uploaded to Youtube (thanks holejams!). It features our new favorite bluegrass instrument, the Theremin. Click here to view it... it is pretty funny!
We closed the set with 3.2, a great Hot Buttered Rum song. Two years ago, Josh and I did a month long tour as a duo in support of his solo cd release, The American Dream. We traveled across five states in the dead of winter freezing our butts off. When our VW bus broke down in Josh's Grandfather's home town of Tremonton, Utah, we decided to make the most of it and took advantage of the amazing dump of fresh powder. We spent 10 days in snow bum heaven waiting for the bus to get fixed, and came to realized that Nat was right... it is really hard getting drunk on the 3.2. We learned our lesson and now we always import our booze when we are headed to that neck of the woods! It was a real treat to have Nat and Aaron come out and sit in with us while we played Three Point Two. You can hear our version on the Hot Buttered Rum website (in the 'Fan's Covers' section) by clicking here

Hot Buttered Rum played an amazing two sets, and the packed house genuinely appreciate all the incredible music that was bouncing off the walls. They debuted some new material and had some fantastic special guests sit in. These guys are just getting better and better! It was fun seeing Zach playing drums, he can lay down some beats. At the end of the night, Hot Buttered Rum played "You make me feel like dancing" for their encore, and had many of their guests from the night come up on stage and dance. It was great fun, and a real honor to be a part of this magical Earth Day celebration. Many thanks to the Fillmore and Hot Buttered Rum for having us, and to all of you who came out and shared the moment with us.
As you can see in the picture below, it was smiles all the way around. See you next time!
