Rubble Dubble

Through the years we have tried to record our shows as much as possible. Now days they are much more exciting to listen because we have enough people coming to see us that when songs end you can hear every body cheering (this makes us feel good!).

Early on however we played a gig, and I can't quite remember the name of the place where it was. It was some hall in marin, maybe Josh would remember. We were hired by friends of his parents (where we got all our early gigs from) to play. This was an important gig because it was the first of what would be many gigs labeled as "rubble dubble".

"Rubble Dubble" gigs are when you listen to the playback of the cd and there is a constant hum of many people talking while you're playing. When a song is done, rather than cheering or acknowledging the band just finished a song with a yahoo!, the hum of the talking crowd just continues on, as if we were not even there. Ironically, these "rubble dubble" gigs where people seem to pay no notice of you usually have paid the most money and have been some of the more fun moments musically.

By having no one listening it gave us the freedom to try new things and experiment with the songs and take some chances that if you knew people were listening to every note you might not try. They are also important because after you play some big shows your head sometimes starts to get big like your some big rock star. There's nothing like a good "rubble dubble" gig to bring you back down to the reality that most of the people out there can care a can of beans about you and your music.

So rather than thinking you're some big superstar (not you, but me), cherish those moments that you connect with people. They are few and far between and we are all are lucky to have any at all.
