I have seen the light!

It is official. Although there have been some awesome times this past year I am making the claim that this was my favorite Poor Man's Whiskey show of 2006! (and possibly of all time). The Dream began months before Strawberry Music festival last year when Eli Jebidiah and myself got the crazy notion it would be a great idea to do Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody" as our finale at the Strawberry Music Festival. We spent about 2 days locked in my garage/studio laying out tracks on the recorder so we could present the band with a reasonable vision of how to pull off the song as a bluegrass unit. We got it down on cd (which unfortunately all trace of it was lost later) and presented it to the band one night at practice. It recieved a possitively lukewarm response and it was decided that it would be too much work with the limited time we had left to prepare for it before Strawberry. The Dream would have to rest. The year passed and there was no mention of doing Bohemian. When we got the Strictly Bluegrass gig we started tossing around ideas of the theme of the show. We knew we were playing sunday morning so it seemed fitting to do a " Sunday morning revival" with the Reverand Cleafis (what else). We stole some great ideas off the Blues Brothers for this one. We needed a big close so Bohemian got tossed out there again but this time had a little more support from the guys. We were still tight on rehearsal time to really do it justice, but we rallied anyway. The day was absolutely beautiful and warm. A good day for a Revival. We were the first act so it was relatively a smaller crowd, but this made it a little more intimate and personal than having a mass sea of people (seeing familiar faces out there always is comforting). From the get go the crowd gave us a great response and participated in the act. I thought the flow of the show was very organized (it needed to be with the time restrictions) and the themes of the songs tied together with the theme of the show. We had beautifal purple robes for the choir (thanks Hannah and Middletown high school for hooking us up) and the Reverand had an all white suit. At the close of the set the "choir" ripped off our robes and we rocked Bohemian in style. It was a little rough in spots but the spirit was there and that hopefully carried it enough for the crowd. If you missed this one try to catch it on video. I remember seeing people in the crowd in tears with laughter and amazement (and i'm sure with disgust from some. but hey, you can't please them all). jason beard set list: rev cleafis speaks (old landmark/gospel number) deacon tony's confession (tennessee whiskey) deacon tony's exercism of the demons brother josh's troubled soul (pms) the holy vison (death valley ass) brother George's sins (whiskey creek) the reverand comes clean (bohemian rhapsody)
